January 10, 2008 - My story "Waterfall" is one of many stories available at the newly launched AnthologyBuilder site. AnthologyBuilder allows readers to create their own "fantasy" anthology by picking the individual stories they want to be included, which will be printed up in a hardcover volume at a very reasonable price. This is a terrific use of print-on-demand technology! Currently, all stories available at AnthologyBuilder have been previously published elsewhere, and there are also some stories that have fallen into the public domain.

If there's an author whose story or stories you'd like to see there, why not send the author an e-mail letting him or her know? The more authors who participate in this project, the better those fantasy anthologies will be!

December 2, 2007 - The Fix, an online short fiction review publication, had kind words to say about my story "Minghun: Unlikely Patron Saints, No. 5". I was particularly pleased that the reviewer, Alex Dally McFarlane, said that Minghun "is one of several stories that Amy Sisson has written about unlikely saintly figures, and after reading this one, I would like to read the others."

In non-writing news, malicious little elves have introduced me to Library Thing, thus ensuring that I will get little accomplished in other arenas of my life. My first library job was in cataloging, so this is the equivalent of introducing an addict to a new drug. My own library is not yet complete, but I'm getting there.

cover of Voyages of the Imagination
November 16, 2006 - Voyages of the Imagination: The Star Trek Fiction Companion by Jeff Ayers (a fellow librarian!) is now available in bookstores. This comprehensive guide has plot summaries and author commentaries for almost all of the Trek fiction ever published, and Jeff was kind enough to include the Strange New Worlds anthology authors.

It's hard to tell at this size, but all those rectangles surrounding the wormhole are actually Trek book covers. Isn't that amazing? And at some 800 pages, this thing is really comprehensive.

October 3, 2005 - There and Back Again -- we experienced our first hurricane evacuation. We live on the southeast side of Houston, in an area that became a mandatory evaucation zone for Hurricane Rita, so off we went. Two cars, (several) cats, and twenty hours of driving to get to Ft. Worth (normally a 4-5 hour drive), where generous friends allowed us the run of their home for several days.

We certainly learned a lot about what to do and what not to do next time, although we hope there never is a next time. But if there is -- we will go. Assuming you have mobility, you just don't sit around and wait for a Category 5+ hurricane to hit you.
